According to a tweet posted on Thursday, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has paid Larsen and Toubro Ltd. (L&T) Rs 1,189 crore to build the Executive Enclave as part of the Central Vista redevelopment.
“The CPWD awarded the contract for construction of Executive Enclave, New Delhi, to Larsen and Toubro Ltd. at 10.44% below the estimated cost put to tender, amounting to Rs 1,189 crore on November 15, 2022. The construction firm is required to complete the work within 24 months,” the CPWD said.
The Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry and CPWD officials claim that the lowest-bidder, DEC Infrastructure of Hyderabad, raised security issues that caused a delay in awarding the contract. While L&T and Tata Projects, the other two bidders, were already working on important projects, those projects involved building three buildings for the Common Central Secretariat and the new Parliament, respectively. The contract has now been given to L&T for the same price that DEC had originally quoted.
The Prime Minister’s Office, India House, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the National Security Council Secretariat would all be located in the proposed Executive Enclave, which would be built to the south of South Block.
