According to the sources with knowledge of the preparations, Reliance Retail has leased a 30,000 square foot location in Connaught Place, New Delhi, to launch a handicraft and artisan items retailing format that will directly compete with the state emporiums nearby.
According to one of the people, Reliance Retail has leased space in Connaught Place’s E Block in New Delhi in order to introduce its Swadesh concept there. Nearby to the State Emporia Complex on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, which houses a number of shops including the Kashmir emporium well-known for its shawls, is where the planned Swadesh store will be located.
While the Karnataka emporium is well-known among tourists and shoppers for its magnificent silks, the Tamil Nadu emporium sells the well-known bronze lamps and icons of Poompuhar. Similar to this, there are state emporiums from several other states, including Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.
Reliance Retail said its Swadesh venture is partnering with various government undertakings and state governments and it has already signed an MoU with the Ministry of Textiles to undertake sourcing of authentic crafted products, directly from artisan communities.
