The USFDA has given Zydus Lifesciences final approval to produce and sell Metoprolol Tartrate Tablets USP, 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg (USRLD: Lopressor 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg). Metoprolol is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or in combination with other drugs (hypertension). Bringing down high blood pressure reduces the risk of heart attacks, kidney issues, and strokes. Additionally, this drug is used to treat angina and increase survival rates following a heart attack. Metoprolol is a member of the beta-blocker drug subclass. It functions by obstructing the effects of specific body chemicals, like epinephrine, on the heart and blood vessels. Heart strain, blood pressure, and heart rate are all decreased by this effect.
