Tata Power Renewables will build India’s first residential Group Captive solar plant

Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) announced a solar power supply agreement with Vivarea Condominium, a residential society in Mumbai. The 3.125 MW solar plant, the first of its kind, will be built in Himayatnagar, Maharashtra, to provide clean energy to the community.

The company, a subsidiary of Tata Power and one of India’s largest integrated renewable energy companies, said it will construct, operate, and maintain this captive solar power plant, which is expected to generate about 7.5 MU of energy and offset 6.15 metric tonnes of CO2 in the first year. The project will be completed by October 2023 and will provide green power to Vivarea Condominium for 40% less than the current tariff. Vivarea will become the country’s first residential society to use captive solar energy for domestic purposes as a result of this.

“This association demonstrates TPREL’s ongoing efforts to mainstream the use of renewable energy,” the company said. Across the country, the company has a portfolio of 10 GWp of ground-mounted utility-scale solar projects and over 1.3 GW of rooftop and distributed generation projects. TPREL also has a manufacturing facility in Bangalore with a capacity of 1,135 MW of modules and cells. It has a total renewable energy capacity of 6,048 MW, with 3,884 MW installed (Solar – 2,956 MW & Wind – 928 MW) and 2,164 MW in various stages of development.
