Tata Power Delhi Distribution has signed an agreement with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam to obtain 200MW of hydro power supply for the next five years during the summer months of May to September. Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power DDL) serves over seven million people in North Delhi. According to a company statement, Tata Power DDL signed its first medium-term Hydro PPA for 200MW with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd to meet projected peak demand. According to the agreement, NVVNL will supply power to Tata Power-DDL for the next five years during the summer months (May to September), starting on May 1, 2023.

The partnership will assist Tata Power-DDL in expanding its green portfolio. The discom planned a number of policy decisions that would emphasise increasing reliance on non-fossil resources and reaffirming its commitment to making the world a greener place. Furthermore, given the current summer season, Tata Power-DDL has made adequate power arrangements to ensure adequate power supply in its area of operations. “We are securing our commitment to sustainability by increasing the share of green energy in our operations with this first such medium-term Hydro agreement with NVVNL,” Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power DDL, said.

Given the current heatwave, Tata Power-DDL has made adequate power arrangements to ensure adequate power supply in its area of operations, according to the company. In the summer months, Tata Power-Battery DDL’s Energy Storage System in Rohini will assist by ensuring continuous and reliable power to consumers. Tata Power DDL is a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Since privatisation, aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses in Tata Power-DDL areas have been at an all-time low. Today, AT&C losses stand at 6.8 percent, a historic decrease from an opening loss level of 53% in July 2002, according to the company.
