Tata Motors signs an MoU with Uber India for 25,000 XPRES-T EVs for Uber India’s premium categoryTata Motors

Tata Motors announced on Monday that it intends to supply 25,000 XPRES-T Tata Motor Electric Vehicles (EVs) as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ride-sharing app Uber for inclusion in their premium category service. Uber said in a statement that Tata Motors will help it electrify its services in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad.
“It represents the largest EV partnership yet between an automaker and a ridesharing platform in India,” said Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India and South Asia. It will accelerate the Uber platform’s transition to zero emissions as we work to build a more sustainable future.” Beginning in February, Tata Motors will begin delivering cars to Uber fleet partners in stages.

Tata Motors launched the ‘XPRES’ brand exclusively for fleet customers in July 2021, with the XPRES-T EV being the first vehicle under this brand. The new XPRES-T electric sedan is available in two ranges: 315 km and 277 km. It has a high energy density battery of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh and can be charged from 0% to 80% in 59 minutes and 110 minutes, respectively, using fast charging or from any 15 A plug point.
It has a zero-emission tailpipe, a single-speed automatic transmission, dual airbags, and ABS with EBD as standard across all variants.

The premium interiors, which include standard automatic climate control and Electric Blue accents throughout the interior and exterior, will set it apart from other Tata vehicles, according to the company. Speaking about the collaboration, Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated: “While the enhanced safety, silent, and premium in-cabin experience provide a relaxed ride for customers, the EV’s fast-charging solution, driving comfort, and cost effectiveness make it an appealing business proposition for our fleet partners. This collaboration will strengthen our market position in the fleet segment.” The ride-hailing industry’s fleet is rapidly electrifying. Ola, Uber’s Indian rival, recently announced plans to launch an EV fleet of 10,000 vehicles.
