ONGC Tripura Energy Firm Restricted (OTPC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assam Energy Distribution Firm Restricted (APDCL) to develop a battery power storage system (BESS) challenge with a capability of up to 250 MW/500 MWh in phased method Assam.
According to an OTPC press release, the challenge can be developed by incorporating a three-way partnership firm. OTPC is a joint venture between ONGC, GAIL, the Tripura government, and the India Infrastructure Fund-II. The challenge will most likely receive a total funding of 2,000 crore.
“OTPC, Assam’s dependable power provider since 2014, is eager to be Assam’s partner in its transition to a decarbonized power mix. “The power storage challenge will herald a number of employment opportunities, boost to local businesses, improved utilization of inexperienced power, carbon emission reduction, and overall socio-economic development in Assam,” OTPC stated.
According to APDCL, because the state is implementing significant photovoltaic power capability, the battery power storage challenge is critical for the profitable integration of upcoming solar energy initiatives.OTPC owns and operates a 726 MW gasoline-primarily based combined cycle energy plant that meets 25% of the power demand of all seven northern Japanese states. As a strategic and dependable power partner, OTPC intends to play a significant role in the country’s clear power transition by establishing power storage techniques on a pan-India foundation for greater integration of inexperienced power with the current electrical energy system, according to a corporate statement.
With the expansion of renewable energy, battery storage techniques will become increasingly important for storing energy for peak demand periods while also ensuring grid stability. Several other states are also attempting to improve energy storage techniques.
