Mukesh Ambani launches brand ‘Independence’ for staples, processed foods, beverages and other daily essentials

With the launch of the ‘Independence’ brand for staples, processed foods, beverages, and other daily essentials, billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance will compete with FMCG food businesses of ITC, Tata Consumer Products Ltd, and Adani Wilmar, analysts said.

A fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd. is RRVL (RIL). The launch is limited to Gujarat and may be a pilot test, and it has been stated that the products will be reasonably priced. After brand development, it will be implemented nationally.

It will face competition from Adani Wilmar in the areas of edible oil, grains, and pulses; Patanjali Foods in the areas of biscuits, packaged atta, and edible oil; Parle and Britannia in the area of biscuits; Tata Consumer in the area of pulses; and ITC in the area of packaged atta and biscuits.

Products from the Independence line are currently accessible through the Jio Mart app and Reliance retail locations. The distribution will be expanded to FMCG retailers in the upcoming months (kirana stores). Biscuits, packaged water, edible oil, packaged atta, besan (gramme flour), pulses, grains, and sugar are among the categories.

Despite RRVL having a number of private-label brands that are sold in its 2,460 brick and mortar grocery stores and Jio Mart app, which reaches 2 million merchant partners/kirana stores across 260 cities, RCPL is a newly-incorporated business.
