L&T Launches Chennai Metro Line-5 ECV-02’s 1st Pier Cap

Larsen & Toubro erected their first 9.5m wide pier cap on Wednesday morning for Package C5-ECV-02 of Chennai Metro Phase 2’s 47 km Line-5, which will connect Madhavaram to Sholinganallur via 48 stations. Package C5-ECV-02, measuring 12.431 kilometres in length, will connect CMBT and Puzhuthivakkam via 12 elevated stations. This feat was accomplished at pier P-321 on Mount Poonamallee Road in the IDPL neighbourhood of Nandabakkam.

L&T was awarded the Rs. 1656 crore C5-ECV-02 contract in November 2021, with a 36-month deadline.
The viaduct and 12 sections of this section are directly in the middle of Line-5. It is made up of two disconnected sections on either side of the double-decker Package C4-ECV-01 (Power House – Porur) awarded to Larsen & Toubro in May 2021.
1. CMBT to Alwartiru Nagar (approx. 3.2 km) with three stations at Grain Market, Sai Nagar Bus Stop, and Elango Nagar Bus Stop 2.Porur Junction to Puzhuthivakkam (approximately 9 kilometres) with 9 stations at Mugalivakkam, DLF IT SEZ, Sathya Nagar, CTC, Butt Road, Alandur, Adambakkam, Vanuvampet, and Puzhuthivakkam.
From Mugalivakkam to MIOT Hospital 3. integrated grade separator (flyover) was built (approx. 2.5 km double decker viaduct for vehicles and metro trains, like the local one at Vadapalani or the one that opened in Nagpur late last year).
