L&T Construction awarded another large contract in the Bullet Train Project

On Monday, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) announced that the National High-Speed Rail Corporation had awarded it another “large” order for the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. According to a filing to exchanges by L&T, the project entails commissioning a depot in Gujarat that is spread out over an area of about 82 hectares.

The engineering and construction behemoth withheld the order’s value, but according to the company’s project classification, a large project costs between 2,500 and 5,000 crores.

“Through a consortium led by Sojitz Corporation, Japan, the L&T Construction buildings and factories business has secured an order from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to construct the Sabarmati Depot (MAHSR – D-2) in Gujarat for the (MAHSR project,” it said.

The project’s scope includes designing, supplying, building, testing, and commissioning the depot, which will be the largest depot in India for this use once it is finished. The depot will be spread out over an area of about 82 hectares and will include various specialised tools needed to inspect and maintain the rolling stock.
