Hindustan Construction Company JV wins BKC Bullet Train Station project worth Rs 3681 cr

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) has awarded a Rs 3,681 crore contract to Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), in collaboration with Megha Engineering & Infrastructures (MEIL), for the construction of the Bandra Kurla Complex Station of the 508.17 km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail. HCC’s involvement in the construction of a high-speed bullet train station represents a significant opportunity for the company to diversify its portfolio and gain a foothold in the high-speed rail construction industry. This new project allows HCC to apply its expertise in large-scale infrastructure construction to a cutting-edge transportation system.

The Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Bullet Train Station will have six platforms, each of which will be approximately 414 m long, allowing for a 16-coach bullet train. The station will be linked to the metro and road transportation. This is the only underground station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, and it is planned to be about 24 metres below ground.

The station will have three floors in total. The station will have a total floor area of approximately 2,00,000 Sqm and will include “state of the art” amenities such as waiting areas, a business-class lounge, a nursery, restrooms, smoking rooms, and information kiosks.

The BKC Bullet train station has been designed with plenty of space for passenger movement and amenities on the concourse and platform levels. Natural lighting is also provided by dedicated skylight provisions. The contract also calls for the construction of a retrieval shaft on the eastern end of the tunnel for the removal of the tunnel boring machine (TBM), as well as architectural finishing, all MEP work, and testing and commissioning.
