Granules India Ltd. has formed a strategic partnership with Greenko Group, which is backed by GIC Holdings Pte Ltd, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, and Japan’s ORIX Corp., to collaborate on green molecule solutions and their wider applications in pharmaceuticals in order to strengthen its position in sustainability and circular economy initiatives.
According to a regulatory filing from Granules, the company will develop and promote integrated green pharmaceutical zones (GPZ) with a first collaboration in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The company will construct a greenfield facility based on sustainability principles to manufacture key starting materials (KSMs), intermediates, APIs, and fermentation-based products on a large scale.
Greenko ZeroC will supply carbon-free energy and enable green hydrogen, as well as its various chemical derivatives, as part of the collaboration. Granules intends to produce value-added products such as DCDA, PAP, Paracetamol, Metformin, and other APIs and intermediates using carbon-free energy and green hydrogen derivatives.
Granules will also manufacture energy-intensive fermentation-based products at this facility using carbon-free energy, and the collaboration will allow Granules to use Fungible Carbon Offset instruments at all of its global manufacturing locations.
