According to a media report, Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) is planning to build a one gigawatt (GW) renewable energy capacity plant in Rajasthan to support the state’s net zero emission target by 2040. BPCL has officially confirmed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan government for the construction of a renewable energy power plant. However, the specifics of the investment and project implementation have yet to be announced. According to the report, an MoU was signed between Bhaskar Sawant, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Energy, Rajasthan, and Shelly Abraham, Head Renewable Energy, BPCL.
With an ambitious goal of achieving “net zero” Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2040, the petroleum company plans to expand its renewable portfolio to 1 GW and 10 GW of generating capacity by 2025 and 2040, respectively. Has even devised a plan to install electric vehicle charging stations at approximately 7,000 gas stations over the next five years. Meanwhile, BPCL owns and operates three oil refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, and Bina, with a total refining capacity of approximately 38 million tonnes. Adding to its existing 20,000 petrol stations and 6,100 LPG distributorships.
