BEL released a statement saying, “Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (DMRC) for jointly developing the Indigenous Communication-based Train Control System (i-CBTC), an important milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance in Rail and Metro operations.
i-CBTC, which is being created locally for the first time in India, will allow trains and the metro to run unattended. It represents a significant advance in the automation of the metro and rail systems and will support the Indian government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, is responsible for overseeing the project. The goal of the MoU is to make use of the complementary skills and strengths of BEL and DMRC.
