BEL opens a new software development centre in Visakhapatnam

The new software development centre (SDC) in Visakhapatnam will provide “Software as a Service” (SaaS) for a variety of applications in both the defence and non-defense domains. The SDC will be an extension of Bharat Electronics Ltd.’s (BEL) Bengaluru Complex Software Strategic Business Unit (SBU). Over many decades, BEL’s software division has successfully implemented many projects of national importance in the fields of defence, aerospace, e-governance, homeland security, and so on.

The Visakhapatnam centre will allow BEL to provide value-added software services for various naval platforms throughout their entire life cycle, as well as take on software-intensive joint development projects with DRDO and provide software solutions for Smart City and Home Land Security requirements. The Visakhapatnam centre will house around 150 engineers and is expected to have a vibrant and safe working environment, according to a statement from the Navratna Defence PSU. BEL was founded in 1954 by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The company is a multi-product, multi-technology, multi-unit conglomerate that designs, manufactures, and supplies defence products and systems.

Its non-defense business includes electronic voting machines, homeland security and smart cities, satellite integration and space electronics, railways, artificial intelligence, cyber security, Software as a Service, energy storage products, and composite shelters and masts.
