Olectra Greentech bags ₹1000-crore order for 550 electric buses from Telangana

Olectra Greentech Limited, a subsidiary of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), announced on Monday that it has received a 1,000 crore order from the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) for 550 pure electric buses. The buses will be delivered over the course of 16 months. “These orders for 500 electric buses and 50 electric buses are to be supplied on a gross cost contract (GCC) / OPEX model basis for a period of 12 years and 10 years (contract period),” the company stated in a BSE filing.

“The TSRTC awarded us a contract to supply 50 standard floor 12-metre intercity coach e-buses and 500 low floor 12-metre intracity e-buses. We are pleased to support the TSRTC’s vision of sustainable and cost-effective large-scale public transportation. The e-buses will be delivered in stages in the near future. “Olectra’s pure e-buses will significantly reduce the city of Hyderabad’s noise and emission levels,” said K.V. Pradeep, chairman and managing director of Olectra Greentech Limited.

“Olectra’s partnership with TSRTC began in March 2019 with the delivery of 40 e-buses. These e-buses have been transporting passengers from the airport to various locations throughout Hyderabad. “Exactly four years later, in March 2023, Olectra has renewed its partnership with TSRTC for 550 e-buses,” Pradeep added. The 50 intercity coach e-buses will run between Hyderabad, Telangana, and Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. The e-buses are fully air-conditioned and can travel more than 325 kilometres on a single charge. The 500 e-buses will operate within Hyderabad in the intracity segment. Each e-bus can travel more than 225 kilometres on a single charge. TSRTC has designated five depots throughout the twin cities for the deployment and operation of these e-buses.
