Bharti Airtel to invest ₹2,000 crore for hyperscale data centre in Hyderabad

Bharti Airtel Group announced a 2,000 crore investment in a hyperscale data centre in Hyderabad. The announcement was made at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Telangana lounge in Davos, Switzerland. According to an official release, Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao, Principal Secretary for Industries Jayesh Ranjan, and the Group’s founder-chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal were present during the announcement.

The Bharti Airtel Group, through its data centre arm, Nxtra Data Centers, will also invest the amount as capital investment for the infrastructure, which will attract additional investments from their customers, according to the official release. In the first phase, the Hyderabad facility will be a hyperscale data centre with a capacity of 60 megawatts (MW) of IT load. It will use cutting-edge cooling and security technologies.

According to the official release, the project is expected to be completed within the next five to seven years. “I am very happy to see Airtel-Nxtra Data Centers invest in Telangana,” Rama Rao said at the event. Hyderabad is now India’s hyperscale data centre hub, and Airtel’s investment accelerates our efforts to keep up.””This is one of our largest greenfield Data Center projects in India, and we are delighted to be working with Telangana,” said Bharti Airtel Group.
